Fiber Optic Measurements of Soil Moisture in a Waste Rock Pile
نویسندگان
چکیده
The design and construction of a waste rock pile influences water infiltration may promote the production contaminated mine drainage. objective this project is to evaluate use an active fiber optic distributed temperature sensing (aFO-DTS) protocol measure soil moisture within flow control layer capping experimental pile. Five hundred meters cable were installed in that 70 m long, 10 wide, was covered with 0.60 fine compacted sand 0.25 non-reactive crushed rock. Volumetric content assessed by heating 15-min heat pulses at 15 W/m every 30 min. To test aFO-DTS system 14 mm recharge applied top surface over 4 h, simulating major rain event. average volumetric FCL increased from 0.10 0.24 duration test. measured ±0.06 ±0.03, respectively, compared values using 96 dielectric probes same time period. Additional results illustrate how can be confined monitored through serving as practical means industrial capacity.

It is presented an optical fiber sensing system projected to operate in the demanding conditions associated with coal waste piles in combustion. Distributed temperature measurement and spot gas sensing are requirements for such a system. A field prototype has been installed and is continuously gathering data, which will input a geological model of the coal waste piles in combustion aiming to un...
متن کاملThe International Soil Moisture Network: a data hosting facility for global in situ soil moisture measurements
In situ measurements of soil moisture are invaluable for calibrating and validating land surface models and satellite-based soil moisture retrievals. In addition, longterm time series of in situ soil moisture measurements themselves can reveal trends in the water cycle related to climate or land cover change. Nevertheless, on a worldwide basis the number of meteorological networks and stations ...
متن کاملMicrostrip ring resonator for soil moisture measurements
Accurate determination of spatial soil moisture distribution and monitoring its temporal variation have a significant impact on the outcomes of hydrologic, ecologic, and climatic models. Development of a successful remote sensing instrument for soil moisture relies on the accurate knowledge of the soil dielectric constant ( soil) to its moisture content. Two existing methods for measurement of ...

-As reported in [1], the Material Characteristics in Frequency Domain coupled with a 2 layer feed-forward Neural Network, MCFD/NN, has been successfully applied to soil moisture determination. The results were obtained under controlled laboratory conditions. Extension to open field soil moisture determination has been reported in [2] and it was shown that the MCFD/NN approach gives accurate res...
